On 25-26 March 2013, The Tobacco Taxation Working Group under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Cambodia conducted a study workshop at the Excise Department, Ministry of Finance, Thailand and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation.

Head of delegation was Dr. Kun Nhem, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Customs and Excise together with 6 other delegates from the General Department of Taxation, the General Department of Customs and Excise and the World Health Organization-Cambodia.

The study workshop’s purpose is to acquire technical knowledge on tobacco taxation and administration systems in Thailand that has successfully adjusted tobacco tax structure and increased tobacco tax rates recently.  In addition, the delegates had an opportunity to consult with Prof.Dr.Prakit Vathesatogkit, Consultant to Tobacco Control Unit, Ministry of Health Thailand and Secretary General, ASH Thailand on lessons learned from tobacco tax policy.
