23rd -24th April 2015, SEATCA together with the Cambodia Movement for Health, organized the ‘2nd Smoke-free Phnom Penh Workshop: Moving Towards an Intensified Enforcement of the Cambodia’s Smoke-free Circular’.
H.E. Pa Socheatevong, governor of Phnom Penh opened the workshop with a strong message of support in making PPCC smoke-free. Governor PA was a smoker for 37 years but has already stopped smoking for 11 months now.
The workshop is a follow-up of the 1stsmoke-free workshop conducted last December 2014 where the participants prepared their action plan for the next 4 months. Participants were expected to share their updates, discuss their challenges as well as prepare a new action plan based on what they have learned in the workshop. There were 30 participants in this workshop coming from the 12 districts of PPCC.
H.E. Sok Leakhena from the APSARA Authority was invited to share their experience in making the Angkor Sites smoke-free. The APSARA Authority has just launched the Smoke-free APSARA Center in Siem Reap.
The participants took time to discuss their plan in making different settings smoke-free starting with their district halls, restaurants and coffee shops. Another workshop will be done at the end of the year or early next year to follow-up their progress.
