On March 17-18, 2016, the Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance’s (SEATCA) Tobacco Tax Program and the World Health Organization (WHO) Cambodia organized a capacity building workshop for the Excise Bureau of the General Department of Taxation (GDT) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF).
The workshop focused on the importance of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and the FCTC Article 6 Guidelines. In addition, there was an experience sharing session on Tobacco Tax system in Thailand conducted by Dr.Chonlathan Visaruthvong, Tax Economist from Excise Department, Ministry of Finance Thailand.
The workshop has brought about an increased knowledge and better understanding of the relationship between tax officials’ roles and FCTC implementation in Cambodia.
