English versions of final decisions from the sixth session of the Conference of Parties (COP6) to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) held in Moscow from 13-18 October 2014 are now available for download from the FCTC Secretariat website: http://apps.who.int/gb/fctc/E/E_cop6.htm.

Among the major decisions are the unanimous adoption of tobacco taxation (Article 6) guidelines, which encourage countries to implement the simplest and most effective tax system that will both reduce tobacco consumption while increasing government revenues. Other issues discussed include prevention of tobacco industry interference, tobacco and trade, reviewing and sustaining treaty implementation, legal liability of the tobacco industry, electronic nicotine delivery systems, smokeless and waterpipe tobacco, and economically viable alternative livelihoods for tobacco growers.
