Lao PDR is moving forward with its smoke-free advocacy by meeting with the Departments of Health, Education and Sports, Security, Culture and Information, Tourism and Transport of Xiangkhouang Province to declare the new UNESCO World Heritage Site Plain of Jars smoke-free.

The Plain of Jars is a megalithic archaeological landscape in Lao PDR. It consists of thousands of stone jars scattered around the upland valleys and the lower foothills of the central plain of Xiangkhoang Plateau. The jars are arranged in clusters ranging in number from one to several hundred.

Officers and sellers at the Plain of Jars Archaeological Site will be given training so that they will be equipped to support the implementation of the smoke-free policy at the site.

SEATCA has been giving technical assistance to Lao PDR to ensure the success of smoke-free Plain of Jars.
