Myanmar holds workshop to strengthen TAPS ban and PHW law

Yangon, 25-26 February 2018: The People’s Health Foundation (PHF) under the leadership of Dr. Than Sein organized a two-day meeting in Yangon to strengthen its tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship (TAPS) ban and pictorial health warnings (PHW) law.

SEATCA Executive Director, Dr. Ulysses Dorotheo and Tobacco Denormalization Program Manager, Ms. Worrawan Jirathanapiwat participated in the meeting as resource speakers.

The workshop was co-organized by SEATCA, Campaign for Tobacco-free Kids (CTFK), and the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS)  and was attended by representatives from the Ministries of Information, Health and Sports, media and civil society.

All ASEAN countries are implementing a TAPS ban, but most are partial bans. All countries in ASEAN also have laws requiring cigarette products to carry Pictorial Health Warnings. For more details, check out SEATCA’s ASEAN Tobacco Control Atlas.
