No to scholarships from cigarette companies, 07/05/10

The Head of an antismoking advocacy team from the Faculty of Public Health, Diponegoro University, Semarang, Bagoes Widjanarko has asked the university to refuse scholarships from cigarette companies.

“This is one of the efforts to prevent cigarettes,” he said yesterday.

The policy to refuse scholarship from cigarettes companies has been applied by the Diponegoro University Faculty of Public Health for the last two years.

Meanwhile in Tegal, according to the survey conducted by the City Health Office on 55.000 respondents, it is known that there are 39 percent of active smokers.

‘”The number could grow,” said Yuli Prasetyo, the Head of the Tegal Health Office.
