SEATCA @ APACT

SEATCA has just concluded its participation during the 3-day Asia Pacific Conference on Tobacco or Health(APACT), held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Sydney, Australia last 6-9 October 2010.  The SEATCA team members organized pre-conference workshops for journalists and mini symposia on Illicit Trade, Smoke-free Environments and Industry Interference; chaired a number of sessions, and were tasked to present regional updates on GHW, SFEs, and other tobacco control issues in relation to the WHO FCTC.  SEATCA director, Ms. Bungon Ritthiphakdee presented during Plenary on ‘How the Industry counters tobacco control efforts in the region’.

SEATCA set up a booth during the conference, where information materials on Tobacco industry interference, the SEATCA Image Bank and the SEATCA Resource Centre materials-CD were made available to APACT participants.  An exhibit of different cigarette packs from the ASEAN region, which have excellent practices on GHW, such as Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand were showcased and displayed.
