SEATCA Lawyers Fellowship Workshop

The SEATCA Lawyers Fellowship Program held its culminating workshop last 17-18 June 2011, at the Borei Angkor Hotel, Siem Reap, Cambodia.  Twelve fellows from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, presented their final project outcomes.

Dr. Mary Assunta, program manager of the SEATCA Fellowship Program welcomed the participants and provided the introductions,  a brief overview of the workshop, and the project and workshop objectives, which included how the network of lawyers can proceed and move as a region.

Invited guests Prof. Ian Olver, CEO of the Cancer Council Australia, Mr. Dass Kadunni, Chief Health Inspector of Malacca, Malaysia and Atty Ma. Paz Luna, of HealthJustice all provided lessons from their countries to the group of fellows.  The SEATCA team and SEATCA core group members were all on hand to provide support, and to welcome the participants and resource speakers.

The two-day workshop also covered sessions on ‘Challenges in Implementing FCTC Article 5.3’ and ‘Positive Developments in the ASEAN’ to generate ideas and additional legal support for the region.
