Orientation & Planning Workshop for Smoke-free Focal Points

A one and half day orientation and planning workshop in Smoke-free Myanmar was organized by the Tobacco Control Cell, Ministry of Health, Myanmar and Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA) from 12-13 November 2014.

Dr. Yin Thandar Lwin, Deputy Director General from Department of Public Health opened the workshop and Ms. Bungon Ritthiphakdee, Director of SEATCA, delivered the message and the overview of the workshop. Regional Directors, Deputy Regional Directors and other senior officers form 15 States and regions of Myanmar attended the workshop.

The president of the People’s Health Foundation, World Health Organization, Myanmar and other organizations were also present. The participants were able to do the smoke-free action plan for their state and region as well as discuss and plan about mechanisms of enforcement to be a smoke-free city using the smoke-free meter,  which is a guide and gauge in making a city smoke-free along with extensive sharing and discussion. The workshop was successfully closed after discussion of way forward and action points.
