Vietnam: NCD Alliance Established to Protect People from Smoking Diseases

VN TC news

Hanoi: 14 July 2015, civil societies agreed to establish Vietnam NCD Alliance to advocate for stronger policy and actions on tobacco and alcohol control. About 70 participants (53 from civil society organizations and 17 media officers) came together in a workshop on tobacco/alcohol control and Non Communicable Diseases (NCD), co-hosted by the Evidence-Based Health Policy Development Advocacy Group (EBHPD)/the Research and Training Centre for Community Development (RTCCD) EBHPD, HealthBridge Vietnam and SEATCA.

An important issue discussed at the workshop was how to address challenges leading to increasing burden from NCDs. Vietnam NCD alliance was formed to enhance jointed effort by Civil Society in Vietnam to further strengthen tobacco and alcohol control policy as well as other NCD risk factors.

The Vietnam NCD alliance’s objective, mission and vision will be developed and shared amongst the interested organizations. The NCD alliance will be the next steps for TC and health advocates in Vietnam to protect public policy from tobacco industry interference.
