World No Tobacco Day 2010 in ASEAN

Cambodia:

Aside from a Press Conference with female resource speakers from the Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Education and other NGOs, and media interviews, Cambodia is preparing for a WNTD celebration on 28 May at the National Institute of Education, Phnom Penh.  Guests of honor include H.E. Mrs. Men Samorn, Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Mrs. Ung Kathaphavy, Minister of Women Affairs and H.E Morm Bunheng, Minister of Health. 

Other participants are representatives from Women NGOs and Ministry of Women Affairs, University students, and Medicam members.The program includes a testimony by a patient suffering from tobacco related disease, a drama performance and speeches from the guests.(Contact:  Mr. Mom Kong, kongmom@ymail.com or Ms. Yeou Phallin, phallin_2004@yahoo.com, Cambodia Movement for Health) Indonesia:The national commemoration of WNTD 2010in Indonesia is spearheaded by the Ministry of Health, and will be held on 31 May 2010 in Padang Panjang, which is a model smoke-free city.  The WHO Award will also be handed to the Padang Panjang Mayor as the Smoke Free Ambassador.  Other activities of the Ministry of Health are: §  Press Conference: prior to WNTD 2010§  TV Talkshow §  Demo§  Exhibitions§  Visit to Padang Panjang Other organizations such as LM3 will have a tobacco control poster competition.  The Tobacco Control Support Center(TCSC) will be choosing the recipient of  the 2010 Writing competition for Journalists, in coordination with LSPP.  Objectives are to show appreciation to journalists for their support to TC movement in Indonesia and to increase public awareness and concern about TC issues.  The competition started last June 2009, and ends May 15, 2010.  Categories are: Print media, TV production, blogs(Contact:  Ms. Kiki Soewarso, Media Officer, TCSC, kikisoewarso@yahoo.com) Lao PDR:The WNTD 2010 in Laos will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, WHO Laos and Ministry of Information and Culture.
Aside from emphasizing this year’s theme, another objective is to formally introduce the Tobacco Control Law of Laos to the media and the general public, and to launch the first issue of the Tobacco Control Newsletter,“Khobchai”
