Pampanga police launch smoking cessation campaign

2 April 2018:

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – As part of its environment and health-friendly activities, the Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPPO), led by Senior Superintendent Joel Consulta, launched on Monday, April 2, its smoking cessation campaign.

According to Consulta, the campaign aims to lessen the amount of toxic smoke in the air, such as cigarette smoke, which is harmful to humans, animals, and the environment.

The PPPO director said that the launch of the campaign is in response to the increasing number of Filipinos who died or become addicted with tobacco-related diseases based on recent studies.

“As members of Philippine National Police (PNP) who are responsible in making the community safe and peaceful, we are required to have a healthy mind and body, thus we launched the activity that will be beneficial to us and to the community,” Consulta said.

In line with this, Consulta urged the members of PPPO, especially those who smoke, to join the campaign by quitting their unhealthy habit which resulted to some 55 policemen making their pledge to stop smoking.

“The 55 smokers quitting their unhealthy habit is significant and will benefit not only themselves, but also their families, community and the environment. And we are hopeful that the campaign will also urge other people to do the same,” he said.

Aside from accepting the challenge, PPPO personnel also attended a lecture on the dangerous effects of smoking on human body hosted by Chief Inspector Leny Pangilinan.

The launching of the smoking cessation campaign was conducted simultaneously in all PNP office including Central Luzon Police Regional Office in Camp Olivas in this city.
